The kingdom of Voulhire appears to be experiencing a period of growth and prosperity, as the king and his subjects work to atone for the mistakes of the past. But how much of what’s been broken can actually be fixed? And for how long? As fresh adventures arise and secrets of the past are revealed, a foreigner from far-off lands, a town that serves as a beacon of tragedy, lords with both noble and evil purposes, mages, and violent insurgents, all seem to find their paths culminating into one.

We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a Sci-Fi/Fantasy novel that transports the reader to another multiverse with a tale about a peculiar kingdom and its inhabitants. This series' first book introduces us to this brand-new world and concepts while also showcasing a huge cast of various characters and locales.

Personally, I thought this book was fantastic. Not just the premise and creativity of the author were excellent, but so was the writing itself. You can easily see it in the countless words and concepts he created for this tale and how effectively they are described in the book. With such appealing personages and settings, this novel is incredibly engaging. It also contains the ideal balance of novelty and mystery, which grabs anyone's attention and makes it quite challenging to put the book down. The editing is also very good, and I hardly noticed any mistakes.

I don’t have any real negative criticism to make of this novel. As I said before, I found it quite enjoyable. However, as it is the first book in the series, you can tell that it places a lot of emphasis on introducing the characters and explaining the new concepts. In other words, preparing the ground for the next books. As a result, I think some readers could find it a bit monotonous and action-lacking. As for myself, I'd prefer to think of it as the beginning of something big.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It was wonderful, and I can't wait to read the next ones and see what else the author will create. Every reader who appreciates stories of magic, kingdoms, and a little bit of mystery will surely enjoy this book. However, be advised that it does contain some profanity and gore, and it also skims over some unappealing topics, such as pedophilia. Therefore, I wouldn't advise anyone who is too young or uncomfortable with this to read it.
