Reconfigurement: Reconfiguring Your Life at Any Stage and Planning Ahead by E. Alan Fleischauer.

I enjoyed the book, Reconfigurement: Reconfiguring Your Life at Any Stage and Planning Ahead by E. Alan Fleischauer. In summary, this book is about taking charge of ALL areas of your financial life and planning for the future.

Procrastinating, hoping for the best, letting others (family members, employers, etc.) do it for you is not the answer. Feeling over-whelmed or uneducated is not an excuse. The author suggests you become informed and construct a plan for your future retirement. And he does so in a humorous and conversational writing style which makes this an easy-to-read book.

The author, a financial planner, discusses many of the compensation & benefits areas associated with employment whether as an employee (W2) or Independent Contractor (1099) or as a Business Owner, that one should focus on for retirement. These areas include 401K, IRA, Health insurance, Disability Insurance and even discusses supportive resources for financial planning such as career assessments and personality tests.

As the title states, “…Planning Ahead” is exactly what this book is about. The author explains in simple, easy to understand terms, financial topics that are generally confusing and sometimes even off-putting for non-finance people to address.

The wide range of topics (some quite boring as even the author acknowledges in his book), may not be of interest to certain readers depending on their age, employment status or financial status. The important thing about this book is that it does not have to be read in chronological order; it’s a recipe type book that can be read in stand-a-lone chapters, to reference and corrleate to the information needed at the various stages of financial plannings.

A distinct and notable stylistic feature of this book is the author's use of humor. Not all readers may find the frequency or type of humor to their liking; others may welcome it and enjoy the authors ability to address serious topics, interspersed with jokes. On a side note, the younger reader may find many of the jokes outdated or corny but then this book, in my opinion, is targeted for people in their early 40’s and older. Regardless, young adults should read this book and take advantage of the financial insights and education the author provides. And really, the humor is harmless and ageless.

I would recommend this book and rate it 4 stars (out of 4). The book is professionally written and edited; I did not find any errors.

E. Alan Fleischauer clearly states his intent in the title of his book, Reconfiguring Your Life at Any Stage and Planning Ahead and he delivers in a direct and humorous writing manner.
