What will happen if buildings and vehicles have their minds? What will be the outcome if things around us use Artificial Intelligence(AI)? The Future of Buildings, Transportation and Power by Roger Duncan and Michael E. Webber discussed the advancement of buildings and transportation shortly. They projected that the buildings, technologies, and vehicles will become sentient. Also, they forecasted that our future energy will be very cheap in the future due to solar power. The book was loaded with projections that will make you wonder.

The book was divided into 5 parts. Part 1 talks about Energy Efficiency Megatrend. Part 2 talks about the future of the building. Part 3 talks about the future of transportation. Part 4 talks about the future of Power, and part 5 is the summary. My favorite parts talk about Sentient-Appearing Buildings and Sentient-Appearing Transportation. I was amazed by the author's splendid ideas. Transportation Future, for example, the authors say that we can expect future vehicles to be smart, autonomous, connected, and even sentient-appearing (page 23). Buildings can able to respond outrightly to our needs. Through Internet, apps on our phones will be connected to the building and will be able to help us with what we need. For example, buildings know our schedule, trips, etc. Vehicles use Artificial Intelligence that will be able to know what time we go out from work and fetch us wherever we are. Authors futurized that there will be driverless cars. How amazing is that?

Additionally, authors say, heating and cooling will eventually create systems to heat or cool a single person to their preferred temperature in only the space they occupy (page 57). That will be awesome. There will be solar cooling paint and panels, and thermochromic windows that change color and opacity. And household appliances will be connected to the Internet. Imagine that advancement? Everything around us seems to have a mind of its own. Then, our lifestyle will be so much easy and more comfortable.

Have you ever heard about Alexa and Siri? Those are examples of the prediction of buildings and transportation. We can able to speak them, and they will respond. We can communicate with them through linking in our smartphones.

I like how the superb ideas of Roger and Michael are presented in this book. It is not easy to realize but it is all possible. Part 4 of this book is kind of difficult-to-understand to me, but it shows how future energy will be much better than today. I like how advanced thinkers Roger and Michael are. Probably, all their predictions will become true in just a decade from now.

Furthermore, I found nothing to dislike about this book. The content was flabbergasted. Besides, it was exceptionally well-edited, for I did not see any errors. The book was well-formatted, and the writing style was coherent. Thus, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars .

I recommend this book to science lovers. They will be amazed at how the authors predict the future. It was astonishing to read. Readers who like the idea of Artificial Intelligence will likely grab this book.

Wow! If it does happen, this feature would be my favorite. :lol2: I am always the one feeling too hot or too cold, as compared to people around me. Nice review, Hazel.
