[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]
We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is set in a golden age of wealth, culture and technology that is the envy of many kingdoms. A humble refugee arrives with great hope having escaped a war-torn land looking for better, only to encounter more trouble as things in this fast changing kingdom are not as they seem to the outside world.
Threats looms large from all sides from the emperor of lullabies to the Riva Rohavi and the wizard who is imprisoned all the while he plots to destroy the king. Despite all this, the ever hopeful Galen Bray stays optimistic that will only get better. Naïve he may be, he vows to make the most of his time in this new land, little does he know that his destiny and path he takes is far-reaching, as his actions will forever change the world.
The author does a great job in portrayal of his characters and their motivations. The protagonists and antagonists actions reverberate and resonate well with the reader, allowing one to relate with the characters and imagine oneself in their shoes. The main character has an arc that is both inspirational and memorable and can be applied to real life, as the key point he drives across is to never give up and make the most of the opportunities given.
There was nothing to dislike about the book, and plenty to like. The story flows and keeps one at the edge of their seat from cover to cover wondering what will happen next. This serves to stimulate the brain's imagination and paint a vivid picture of the scenes in the book.
The book is 195 pages long, divided by chapters. However, the author does not number the pages. There were some use of profanity in the book and tiny bits of sexual content. The book is fictional, therefore suitable for all religions, since it does not offend anyone’s beliefs. The book is expertly written and published, since I found no errors while I enjoyed it.
Due to all the factors above, I happily recommend this book to all, especially those who love a story filled with adventure of the magical and fictional kind. All in all, I really loved reading this book and cannot wait for the next installment. I happily give the book a rating of four out of four stars.
