[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]
We are voulhire: A new arrival under great skies by Mattew Tysz is a thoroughly enjoyable fantasy book. One of the best I have ever read. It is filled with betrayal, deception, and the political intrigue that characterizes kingdoms, often resulting in their demise.
The emperor of Lullabies is the ruler of a vast and powerful nation. To ensure peace and prosperity during his reign, he nullifies future threats. He gives his sons islands, far away from the capital, and commands them to fight for the right to overthrow him. They spend 20 years doing so. Galen bray escapes from one of such islands. He flees to Maegnum Caelum, where he takes up the inheritance left to him by his great-uncle and works to chart his future and destiny.
Meanwhile, King Wilhelm of Voulhire locks up Dalerie Meldorath, a popular friend, and powerful mage in a castle. He then proceeds to tell his citizens that he is dead. He thinks to protect his citizens and kingdom. However, his actions will have negative consequences for him and his kingdom, as things begin to unravel behind the scenes.
The book is very well written and interesting to read. There were no errors and none of the erotic content often found in adult, fantasy novels. The dialogue is good and the events develop interestingly.
The characters are what one would expect from a fantasy novel, minus the magical creatures.
I did not like that the pace of the writing was slow. I suppose this is because the author wants to use this book to build a base for the other 6 books of the series.
Secondly, there are a lot of places and names to keep up with. A novice reader would find it frustrating.
I would give this book a 4 out of 4 stars rating
I would recommend this book to teenagers. Lovers of fantasy would thoroughly enjoy this book.
