Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer is a witty and relaxed look at retirement, planning ahead and having a fulfilling career. The author challenges our preconceived notions of what retirement is, educating us on what it is and what it could be. This book gets down to the nitty gritty of planning ahead; the author understands how daunting this task may appear to most people and that we are not alone in feeling this way. The thirteen chapters in this book are meticulously organized so that it doesn't feel like a bunch of financial advice is just thrown at you; this, combined with the humour interspersed throughout the book, makes what would have otherwise been a herculean task a lot easier and enjoyable.

There are so many aspects of this book that I thoroughly enjoyed, but one thing I was not expecting but absolutely loved was how funny it is. It was sometimes downright hilarious, which is not what you would expect from a book about planning ahead, but I found the humour extremely helpful because while learning about annuities, trusts, insurance, traditional IRAs and Roth IRAs, I also had a good laugh. Another thing I liked about the book were the short stories that added a personal touch that made it seem like you were getting advice from a friend rather than being told what to do. Finally, the author provided numerous resources, including relevant reading materials, credits and, in my opinion, the best one, all of the links to his jokes and puns.

As you can probably tell, I have nothing negative to say about this book; the editing was excellent, and the information was presented in a clear and concise manner, with just the right amount of detail. All citations and credits are listed at the end of each chapter. Overall, it was an absolute pleasure to read.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because it taught me so much about future planning, what it entails, and the steps I need to take to get where I need to be financially. It also taught me the importance of choosing a fulfilling career. It exceeded all of my expectations and delivers on all fronts.

I would recommend this to book readers who want to learn more about financial planning, retirement, and how financial institutions work in general. This book would also appeal to audiences who enjoy humour.
