Dying Well: Our Journey of Love and Loss is a non-fictional book written by Susan Ducharme Hoben. The book has 37 chapters and 255 pages. It focuses on the struggles of cancer patients while sharing the experience of herself and her husband, battling cancer. Many people take cancer diagnosis as a death sentence which makes them live a negative life. The author shared his view positively, which will help encourage people who have been diagnosed with cancer.

Susan and Bruce have been happily married for thirty-three years and were blessed with children. It was during the festive period that a tumour was found in Susan’s heart, and that became a challenge for her and her family. They all came together and won the battle as she recovered and was cancer free after a series of treatments. A few years later, his husband, Bruce, was diagnosed with cancer of the oesophagus. They went for a further scan, and what they found out was disturbing. They decided as a family that changed their lives. What was the disturbing news? Which decision was made that changed their lives?

The author started the book with the words of Brian Andreas, and this was inspirational and it prepared my heart for the story in the book. The book was written with words that made it interesting and brought life into it. I enjoyed reading this book in its entirety. The author included words of advice and encouragement for cancer patients. She included the design of the invitation that was sent for her celebration of life's party. This allowed me to understand the emotion behind her victory celebration, as the invitation was full of life and humour. The author provided speeches given by some relatives and friends, and thoughts of characters in italics to help differentiate them from the rest of the story. The story narrated developed at a moderate pace, and it made it easy to relate to the life of the writer. I learnt that no matter how hard life may be, we can be positive and live life to the fullest. This was what the couple did in this book. All these made me enjoy this book.

I was sceptical about picking this book, but it was a perfect read. There was nothing I disliked about this book. It was interesting and addictive. It was also professionally edited with no errors noticed. The memoir had many lessons.

I will rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I will recommend this book to cancer patients and people who have cancer patients. It will brighten their lives and give them positivity. The book has no profane words.
