[Following is a volunteer review of "Winning the War on Cancer" by Sylvie Beljanski.]
Do you believe some incurable diseases have cures, and people in high places disapprove of them because they make lots of money from the illness? Winning the War on Cancer by Sylvie Beljanski is a book that tells the story of Dr. Mirko Beljanski, a molecular biologist, his work, his family, his belief, his legacy, and how they live on till today. Dr. Mirko Beljanski is the author’s father and mentor. Before his death, he was not the best at giving his daughter attention because of his scientific work, specifically cancer, and trying to propound a cure.
Dr. Mirko finds a cure for cancer, but he has to face the warheads of the FDA, who do not give his patency because it won’t make them profitable. Like others before him, his drug did not see the light of day until now. Sylvie Beljanski uses this book to tell the world of her father’s discovery, thus continuing his legacy. We are carried through Dr. Mirko’s research in France years ago, with the trials and tribulations he faced. Sylvie also shares information on her father’s drug for those in need.
Winning the War on Cancer is a non-fiction book that shows readers we are in a world where some individuals choose money over lives. This outstanding work is a revelation, as it reveals that some effective drugs do not make it to light because they are not profitable. Do we need these big pharmaceutical organizations? This book has ten chapters, and the author marvelously puts them together. The story is enlightening and saddening because these corporations have coined society into thinking there is no cure for cancer, and many have undergone excruciating pain alongside their loved ones. Yet most patients still die at the end of everything.
I enjoyed reading this book as someone in the medical field. It lets me understand that there is more to what we know. Dr. Mirko’s work is brave and aimed at helping individuals who need it most, not for monetary gain alone. Winning the War on Cancer is a book that will surely make the author’s father proud. She captures all the best moments and the stories leading to this remarkable journey. Winning the War on Cancer is exceptionally edited. There were no grammatical or punctuation errors in this book.
Proudly, I rate this book five out of five stars. There is nothing I dislike about this book. I am happy I encountered this book, as I learned various things from it, and I will share this information with others. I recommend Winning the War on Cancer to cancer patients, health professionals who are ready and willing to break the barriers we face today in the health profession, and teachers, so they enlighten students with the truth.
