Review of The Date Farm
THE DATE FARM
By Jack Winnick
This was a great introduction to The Date Farm series by Jack Winnick. Having never read The Date Farm series before, it was to my surprise a captivating read. The spy story kept my interest. I was eager to find out what happens with the spies. By analyzing, The Date Farm, one will begin to understand, the terrorist’s aims, the special agent’s goals, and the end results for both sides. Followed by my recommendation and rating for this super spy adventure story.
This story starts off with Uri and Lara vacationing at her home in rural Ohio. This weeklong break was a needed reprieve for Uri and Lara. The sound of a loud cell phone ringing disturbed the couple's tranquil morning with disturbing news. Almost immediately after Uri's cellular device started blaring out music Lara's cell phone started vibrating so hard, she thought it was going to hit the floor. They husband and wife pair were immediately called to Los Angeles where terrorist had just carried out a massacre in the Beverly Hills Shopping Mall.
The climax occurs when the two agents are captured and detained during their mission. However, the other special agents involved in the covert operation named Bruno had devised an alternate plan. The agent’s plan was to recover some stolen metal and a second operation to rescue the two CIA agents two weeks after the first raid. This was a good and realistic way to present the story.
At the successful completion of the CIA operatives’ mission and then they were awarded a prestigious. medal by the President of the United States. This was a great honor and neither agent was aware of the full extent of their service until that moment. Once the President began the awards ceremony and divulged the true nature of the operation, the pair realized they managed to thwart a nuclear attack. Both agents were immensely proud of the other and could not wait to celebrate their victory privately.
The massacre at the Beverly Hills Mall was brilliantly described. It allowed the reader to feel as if they had access to the scene without being in the mall. This story reaches most adult and preteen audiences. The description of the terrorist was very descriptive and lead the reader to a detailed imaginary picture of what they looked like. Great character analysis. The author so well showed the main characters little was needed by the imagination was need for visualization. I found nothing negative about this super spy story.
My rating for The Date Farm, by Jack Winnick is a 5 out of 5-star rating. This rating is easily given to this cleverly written spy story. The twist and turns in the story kept the audience engaged and sitting on the edge of their seats. Since I have never read the first three books in this series, I had no expectation. Funny, the story did not leave me asking what happened in the earlier stories but instead I wanted to know what was going to happen in the upcoming spy series. A highly recommended read for adults of all ages.
