Review of Man Mission
Written by Eytan Uliel, Man Mission: Four Men, Fifteen Years, One Epic Journey is a thrilling book that takes us through the story of four young men who came together to travel to different places annually for adventure for fifteen years. Being a storyteller and a global traveler, the author passionately takes us through his experiences of biking in Korea, kayaking in Fiji, hiking in Spain, sailing in Thailand e.t.c with his three friends Sam, Daniel, and Alec.
The book introduces us to the four friends and how Man Mission was conceived. Eytan was looking for someone to go with to the Food Affair on campus since his best mates Daniel and Alec couldn't join him. Sam opted to go with him. While out there, Eytan shared with Sam his teenage fantasy of going on an annual vacation each year to a different exotic location with the sole focus of sampling every weird, bizarre edible he could find. Sam accepted the idea and even suggested that the trip include doing something outdoor, i.e., biking, kayaking, and hiking. That was the beginning of Man Mission. How did the adventures go? Did the four men encounter any difficulty while on their missions? Were their missions accomplished? Besides the adventure, we also go through the love life of the four men, their marriages, and their children.
There are several reasons why I liked this book. First, I liked the fact that the author included maps that shows different areas mentioned in the book. This gives readers a glimpse of the regions the four young men visited. Second, I liked the friendship and humor that existed among the four friends and how they were there for each other both in good and bad times. They joked with each other and never got mad at each other. They always find a way to go with the flow. For example, when Sam sent a group email to Alec of acceptance to the fraternity and referred to him as the dung beetle of the group, he saw no offense with that. Last but not least, I liked that the author introduced each mission with a quote and a verse from the Bible, which motivates readers to read on and on.
There is nothing I hated about the book because the author did exceptionally well in putting the book together. Man Mission is filled with life lessons to learn from. Reading the book, we learn so much from the failures and achievements of the characters. The four men portrayed a real picture of a real man and what they go through behind the scenes but can't speak out because it would appear that they are not man enough. For example, when Eytan resigned and was summoned by the firm's chairman, he couldn't confess his true feelings because he thought his reasons were not manly and that he could be judged.
I rate Man Mission: Four Men, Fifteen Years, One Epic Journey by Eytan Uliel 4 out of 4 or 5 out of 5 stars because the book was exceptionally edited, and I didn't come across any errors. Second, the book is filled with so much adventure and fun which kept me wanting to read on and on to know the next destination the four friends went to next. At some point, reading this book felt like watching a movie. I had no apparent reason to deduct a star from the rating.
This book is suitable for readers who love reading adventure and travel stories.
