[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is Michael Tysz’s first book in the We are Voulhire series. This fantasy book takes us into a world of power, magic, war, and political turbulence.
Galen Bray suddenly inherits his uncle's estate and forge, Onita Steel in Magnum Caelum, Voulhire. He finally escapes his war-ravaged homeland, the Lands of the Princes, and journeys to Voulhire where he anticipates all things new and beautiful. In Voulhire, things are slowly turning sour. Eldus Alderman, a former judge of Voulhire, travels with his family to Hillport, where he was made Lord on the orders of the king, King Wilhelm, to improve the economic situation of this coastal town. But they are yet to realize that evil and war brew under this beautiful country of Voulhire.
A beautiful tale of revenge, and political tussle, this fantastic fantasy novel will suck you into a world of magic and power. It has a slow plot at first, but the author was setting the foundation for subsequent books in the series, and crafting excellent character development. I love the adventure and character development, the author has a great writing style with detailed descriptions. I could try to imagine the sceneries and the fear of Lord Meldorath is palatable.
I felt like there were too many names of characters and places to get lost in, and I was grateful for the character list at the beginning of the book and the glossary at the end. It is difficult to pin down the timeframe of this book. They made use of horses and steam engines, but they also spoke in a modern way, far advanced from what should be heard in those times. Also, the use of words like gyms and ice rinks didn’t fit perfectly in such times.
A very interesting read, I would pick up the next book in the series. I could find no errors, so it’s safe to say We are Voulhire: a New Arrival under Great Skies is properly edited.
I rate this masterpiece 5 out of 5 stars because though there are few profanities in this book, it doesn’t retract its beauty, rather it shows rather than tells how slowly Voulhire was getting rotten.
I recommend We are Voulhire: a New Arrival under Great Skies by Michael Tysz to fantasy lovers and lovers of the Harry Potter series. A more mature audience, because there are some profanities in it.
