I read Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula by R.F. Kristi with my friend’s four-year-old, and we both loved it. The story follows Inca, a Siberian cat, and her friends after they return to their London detective agency from a successful mystery-solving trip in Sri Lanka. Their human mother, Missy, invented a new type of cheese and was invited to be the judge in a cooking competition. However, this amazing cheese is stolen. The cat detectives must find the cheese before time is up, but will they be able to?

This was a really fun and light read. Kristi is a fantastic children’s fiction author, and this book showcases her talents. She was able to blend a lot of good moral values with harmless fun in such a natural way, which I think will be a wonderful learning experience for kids.

The writing was also very simple, and both I and my little reading buddy enjoyed the pictures. They were colorful, well-illustrated, and brought life to the pages. There were a variety of characters, from Inca and the other cats to Baram, a dog. All of them were quite unique and interesting. The book was professionally edited, and I found zero errors.

I also really appreciate the fact that Kristi was not afraid to introduce some mature concepts into this book. It was nothing that wouldn’t be appropriate for children, but I think it can serve as a stepping stone toward critical thinking for them. This is apparently the eighth book in a series. I plan on reading the others with my friend’s son.

There was honestly nothing I disliked about the book, hence the perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars. I think this would be a lovely read for children, but I also recommend that parents read it with them. It should be a great bonding experience because the book is written in such a way that even older readers will not get bored while reading it.

Children's books can be fun and engaging for kids to read. The pictures and the characters are what made it engaging.
