Review of Terms of Service

[Following is a volunteer review of "Terms of Service" by Craig W. Stanfill.]
In this novel, Terms of Service by Craig W. Stanfill, the protagonist, Kim, finds herself living in a world where everything is controlled by an artificial intelligence known as the Als. The Als regulate every aspect of her life, from the music she listens to, to the food she eats and even the people she can date and sleep with. Despite being a model citizen who follows the rules set by the company, Kim struggles with feelings of loneliness and unhappiness, often turning to vodka to numb her emotions. However, her seemingly perfect and controlled existence is disrupted when an old friend who was previously suspended is allowed back into the inner district of the city, causing her to question the limitations of her artificial world. The book was so captivating that the reader didn't want it to end.
One aspect of the book that stood out to me was the exceptional world-building. The author did a great job of creating a fully realized and immersive setting for the story. Another thing I enjoyed was the engaging build-up to the major events in the plot. As the story unfolded, I felt a sense of tension and anticipation that kept me invested in the outcome. However, if I had to choose a favorite element, it would probably be the way the protagonist, Kim, became more relatable and open as the story progressed. Initially, I found it difficult to connect with Kim, but as the plot thickened and Kim faced new challenges, I felt a deeper connection to the character. One of my favorite parts of the book was how the author tackled the topic of a surveillance state in a sci-fi setting. It was a clever and thought-provoking concept that added depth and complexity to the story.
I encountered a few difficulties while reading this book. One of them was when the book included descriptions of baseball games. As I was not familiar with the sport, I struggled to fully follow the plot during those parts. While this was a minor inconvenience, it did not significantly affect my overall reading experience. Another issue I noticed was the presence of vulgar language in some parts of the book. Despite these challenges, I was still able to enjoy the book overall.
Therefore, I would rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. However, I found one error, so I believe the book was professionally edited.
I would recommend this book to lovers of crime thrillers.
