[Following is a volunteer review of "Donny and Mary Grace's California Adventures" by Catherine A. Pepe.]
Donny and Mary Grace's California adventures by Catherine A. Pepe is a Children's book about a grandma Gang Mystery and the transition of change that Donny Miller and her sister Mary Grace had to go through after their parents moved to Africa from Wichita. Donny is Mary's brother who was diagnosed with a down syndrome. This book shares with us the Miller family's acceptance of Donny and the journey of two siblings and the moments they have spent together. The book is only 112 pages long and divided finely into seventeen chapters.
This could be the best book for children. I valued the language which the author used, it was simple to comprehend. Not only can children enjoy listening to it, but they could be able to read the story by themselves without getting lost. It is rare to find children's books which are based on a true story. Hence, I found this story quite perfect for teaching kids how they could approach life circumstances if they happen to find themselves facing situations that the characters mentioned in the story faces.
I always tell people that old or young "please and thank you" are the two best words that carries a person forth with honor and dignity. Thus, I appreciated how the author created a space for a part in the story where she emphasized how important it is to say Please and thank you.
The lessons that it provides are good for children to grasp and keep in mind. Considering that the only thing that I feel like the writer missed about the book was the picture illustrations. It would have been greater if they were present.
This book could be a great read for mothers of teenagers. It could provide them with some thoughts on how they could deal with them. I extend my recommendation to children between the age of 10 and 14. I didn't come across any error within the book, as a result I conclude to say it was exceptionally edited. This book gets a rating of 5 out of 5 from me, course I loved it and how it is perfectly suited for its audience.
