Terms of Service is a well-woven fictional world where everything is driven by Artificial Intelligence or AI. It is a technological wonder. Your refrigerator will know which foods are good for your health and will serve you accordingly. A matchmaking application will help you find a partner. A transportation site will guide you everywhere, even to a seat on the train, and it will always keep you from getting late to the office. Virtual Reality or VR, the most astonishing entertainment tool, will let you experience trekking, partying, underwater diving, cycling, or anything else you like, from the comfort of your couch and your pajamas. But there is a price.

Remember, every time you get engrossed in your phone and your elders say that your generation has become a slave to technology, do you think they are exaggerating? Well! This book might tell you otherwise. What if the gadgets that you watch while you eat, defecate, travel, and sit with your family and friends are keeping a watch on you instead? What if they are observing your every gesture and tracking the discrepancies for future use? What if the gadgets that are supposed to be controlled by you are actually controlling you?

I found this book to be scary yet intriguing, funny yet inspiring, and fictional yet realistic. The world presented by the author, Craig W. Stanfill, is a dream come true until it becomes a nightmare. The best part of this world is gender neutrality. The author has done a wonderful job of describing the characters without disclosing their gender. Even the names are gender-neutral. I bet every reader would have tried to guess the gender of the important characters in the book, only to find out later that it did not matter. I think that is the message the author wanted to convey.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. The author has a brilliant sense of humor. The writing is so pleasant that even lengthy technical descriptions of AI seemed interesting to me.

I would recommend this book to readers of fiction and non-fiction alike. As I mentioned before, this might be a make-believe world, but it is so realistic that I cannot wait to read the next part, to find out more about Kim. Do not miss the author’s final words. That is the icing on the cake. It made all the difference to me.

Dystopian novels are my favorite. I especially enjoyed the “Hunger Games” series. They could all be realities sooner than we think.
