Just as the first part of the title depicts, We are Voulhire, is the first of the series where several characters are introduced and take turns in their perspective throughout the book. From the mundane to the king, each has a story of their own that was revealed. We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies, begins with Galen Bray, who arrives at Magnum Caelum, Voulhire after a long journey from the Land of the Princes. He meets several individuals on his quest to continue his uncle’s legacy as a blacksmith. The second main protagonist of this series is Eldus Alderman who became the new lord of Hillport. In charge of flourishing Hillport, Lord Eldus meets several complications with the fragments of the previous lords and proceeds to deal with the current political issues with Hillport.

The first out of seven series played a major role in introducing multiple characters and their subtle connections with one another. Matthew Tysz illustrated unique characteristics and storylines behind each individual and landscape which enhances the overall story plot. For example, the Land of Princes is a place where only the survival of the fittest will last. Galen was able to immigrate to Magnum Caelum, where hard-work paid off. The novel was built with a strong storytelling element that stops readers from putting it down. Vivid imagination, intense dialogue, and suspense created such addiction.

With lots of moving parts, it is difficult to keep track of the language and dialogue. I appreciate the list of characters and reference guide that was given. There were times where I referenced back to those pages to fully grasp the context that was being illustrated. Especially in the beginning where family members and previous lords were introduced, I had to go back to the page before the prologue where characters were briefly described and how they relate to one another.

Overall, I rate this novel four out of five stars. Not only was it exceptionally well written and edited, the storytelling and character development was exceptional. Even though each was completely different from one another, Matthew Tysz was able to synergize their characters into one whole book and to make it fluid. From the beginning to the end, I was completely immersed into the story, as if I was watching a movie unfold before me.

I recommend those who are interested in fantasy, science fiction, politics, and war to give this a shot. Even though the concept is complex and it only touches the basis of what’s to come, I recommend it to those who also enjoyed similar books such as Divergent, the Maze Runner, and Game of Thrones.
