Are you or anyone close to you thinking of retiring soon? If not, are you one of those people who like to get a head start on things to make sure the future holds no surprises or dangers? Or maybe you'd like to change your career and need some guidance? If you answered yes to any of these questions, Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer will be a great book for you. It is a sort of guidebook on how to start planning ahead and literally "reconfiguring your life at any stage". In his book, Fleischauer includes many necessary topics such as: social security, mutual funds, wills and life insurance and even provides a list of useful web tools to either expand your knowledge on the topic or find out what kind of career is best for you. Most importantly, though, he explains what they are and why they're important to think about early on.

Even though I am nowhere near retirement, I think this is a great self-help book if one wants to learn something about the topic. I especially liked the fact that, despite the topic being complicated and quite dull, the author managed to make it a light and enjoyable read for me. It may be due to the numerous jokes that he incorporated into the book or his very entertaining style of writing. Personally, I'm surprised to admit some parts genuinely made me laugh. Who would have thought? Another thing is that there's quite a lot of data with statistics and sources, which makes the book more reliable.

The book serves its purpose perfectly. However, if someone perhaps expects a serious set of instructions and advice on the matter and can't tolerate the kind of humour Fleischauer flaunts, then this kind of book might not be the best option. Also, it is heavily American oriented so it may not be as helpful to readers from outside of the United States.

Nevertheless, as for me, it just seems like a great and informative book, so I give it a rating of 5 out of 5 stars .

I would recommend it to, first and foremost, any American person who is thinking of retiring and "reconfiguring" their lives, or anyone interested in learning more about matters connected to retirement, because as the author admits himself: it's never too early to think ahead.
