[Following is a volunteer review of "Man Mission" by Eytan Uliel.]
Friends often have their traditions and rules that help them stay connected. Life goes on, our environment changes, and sometimes professional and personal life, but true friends stay by our side. Man Mission by Eytan Uliel tells a heartwarming story about such a strong friendship.
Four inseparable friends who met in college are at the center of events. The first chapter is set in New Zealand, where the main character goes with a chance companion, Sam. Although the idea of a spontaneous camping trip sounds appealing, the main characters are unprepared psychologically and physically. Many challenges await the heroes on an arduous and exhausting journey. In addition to physical injuries, the heroes encounter a group of criminals, but you won't be sure of your abilities until you test yourself. The characters gain new knowledge, push their limits, and share amazing tales with the reader while facing challenges and having unforgettable adventures on each trip.
Over the course of 15 years, annual trips were made to countries with various cultures and natural landscapes. A very brief description of the trip's location, duration, accommodation, and injuries sustained is provided at the end of each chapter. I really liked it because, besides the short summary, it was also fun to read, thanks to the author's humor. Chapters are preceded by quotes and simple maps with only the information needed for the reading; In addition, you will read the most dangerous or most intriguing part of the corresponding journey, which arouses interest in the reader who eagerly starts reading new adventures.
The narrative is in the first person and resembles the author's diary or memoir. The characters grow before the reader's eyes, and the assessment of their progress at the end of the book is heart touching. I think we can learn many lessons from the book, and I will highlight the most important of them. The first is that true friendship has nothing to do with time. We often think that true friends are people with whom we have been connected for years; however, a person we met at the most unusual time can turn out to be a true companion in our lives, and Sam is an example of this. Also, the comfort zone is our biggest enemy; life consists of those moments that allow us to challenge ourselves and feel the joy of overcoming fear and obstacles.
Since there is nothing I did not like about this book, I rate it 5 out of 5 stars. The narrative is dynamic and doesn't bore the reader. Travels are interesting, different from each other, and give new lessons. At the same time, we get to know the personal lives of the heroes and we cheer for them even more. Man Mission is an exceptionally well-edited book, as I did not notice any errors. I recommend the book to adventure and travel lovers.
