Review of In It Together (2nd Edition Hardcover from B&N)
This book is the 2nd edition of the number one bestseller, In It Together: The Beautiful Struggle Uniting Us All by Eckhart Aurelius Hughes. I recently read the first edition and wanted to check out the changes. Reading it a second time has revealed many things I didn't absorb the first time. This psychological book explains our consciousness and teaches us how to love ourselves and others.
Are you satisfied with what you see when you look in a mirror? If not, this book brings good news. The person you see in the mirror is not you, not in the true sense. The good news is the 'real you' is the spirit that dwells inside the body you see in the mirror. But that's only part of the story. Your spirit only dwells in the body while on this part of its journey. Life as a human has many problems and disappointments, but we are all in the same situation regardless of worldly unrest and division. How we handle things is up to us. Our 'consciousness,' i.e., our spirits, can love each other despite the problems in the world or our own life. This book will enlighten you in many ways. You may question, disagree, or find complete peace. Regardless of how you respond, you will not regret reading this book.
Hughes describes how our consciousness can feel love and acceptance for everyone and every circumstance we face on this earthly journey. When I first read this book, there was a lot I didn't understand, as I am not a philosophical person. In my first review, I acknowledged that I have never been a deep thinker. However, after reading the book a second time, the concept of what the author was saying became more apparent. This second read was like reading this book for the first time. It is not a book you can read once and put aside. Inside the pages, you will find inspiring quotes, an in-depth look at the 'real you,' and even some humor.
My favorite aspect of the book is the eleven suggestions the author gives for "How To Free Your Spirit And Manifest Your Love." For instance, letting go. Let go of lying, let go of fighting, let go of resentment, hate, unforgiveness, and more. We shouldn't let those things dominate our lives. When we experience the good and beautiful things in this life, we can show unconditional love instead of anger and hatred. Regarding what I disliked about the book, nothing comes to mind.
Because of the exceptional editing, the excellent writing skill of the author, and the humor, I am happy to rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I don't have any complaints about the book, so there is no reason to give anything less than a perfect score. I recommend this book to all those who may struggle with their identity, and I also recommend it to philosophy students and teachers. This book is not about religion, so it is suitable for all beliefs and non-beliefs.
