Review of The Date Farm
Jack Winnick does not disappoint in this fourth installment of the Uri and Lara series. The Date Farm is an enthralling continuation of Lara and Uri's story. After getting married, they move to Israel, where they reside. Uri promises to visit Lara's family in Ohio during their next leave. The time comes, and they both go to her family's farm in Ohio, where Lara grew up, and he meets her family. Having had different generations of the family serve in the military, they were proud and accepted Uri wholeheartedly.
They receive a call in the middle of the night; a shooting has taken place in a mall in Beverly Hills, and terrorists are suspected. Uri and Lara are called to duty and leave in the middle of the night. On getting there, they find out that the security of the communication networks and satellites of both the Department of Defense and Homeland Security has been breached.
The author captivates me with his writing. I was engrossed while reading from start to finish. The way he blends fiction with facts is astonishing. The book moved quickly, with no time to be idle or distracted. The plot flowed well, going directly to the point and wasting no time with fillers. Every character had a role to play. Even the secondary characters were pivotal to the plot and weren't just fillers. Uri and Lara's characters are always patriotic. They are ready to serve their respective nations whenever they are called to serve. It takes courage and bravery to do that, and I admire that about them. If there are more people like them in this world, it'll lessen corruption.
Lara's character is my favorite. She had to put in extra effort to get where she was. It wasn't easy being a woman in the force, but she fought through it. Her family didn't believe in her at some point, but she was determined and won them over. I found some errors in the book, which shows it wasn't well edited. While the book was quickly paced, I felt the author could have slowed down at some points in the story. This would have helped readers who hadn't read the previous books.
For these reasons, I give this book a rating of 4 out of 5 stars. The scenes with violence are many, and I wouldn't recommend this book to those who do not like violence. I recommend it to lovers of action, suspense, and thrillers.
