Concerned about managing your finances? Not able to make your financial decisions? Concerned regarding your retirement plans? Or you have not yet started to plan for your retirement? Well then, Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer is your solution. It is a non-fiction self-help book concerning personal finance and planning. Reconfiguring financial planning is about reconfiguring your life at any stage and to plan in advance. Alan has been a financial advisor for 20 years and he has packed his experiences and knowledge into this short book consisting of only 13 chapters. He did his best to bridge the gap between reality and tradition.

The tone of the book was conversational rather than just dumping all the information and blandly stating facts. The author’s use of humor at all the places possible made it easier to read and it did not bore the readers to death. The best thing was that when the topic was a bit too overwhelming for the readers, he gave us breaks by adding some images containing some jokes regarding the same topic. He even provided us with lots of websites and apps, giving his opinions on each of them. He even recommended some books that are on the topic of working from home. The best part about Alan is that being a financial advisor, he did not influence people to switch their financial advisors or hire him as their advisor.

The thing that I did not like was that the author was referring to and targeting only the American audience. He explained how American laws and rules work, for example, 401k which is a retirement savings plan offered by many American employers that has tax advantage for the savers. Now, this is generally known only to American citizens. Besides this everything was on point.

I would rate this book 5 out of 5. The book was very well edited and I did not find any typographical errors. The detailed explanation made sure that even those who do not know much about finance can understand. The book was very informative and he tried to explain maximum terminologies. The flow of the book was easy to follow and the execution was very well done. Not to forget mentioning author’s witty personal quirks were wholesome.

I would recommend this book to those who are above 35-40 years; who are nearing retirement or thinking of reconfiguring their finances. This is also a great read for finance enthusiasts who are interested in and keen on learning the basics of finance. However, it is a great book for an even younger audience but can be a bit overwhelming.
