As a fan of action thrillers, I was excited to dive into The Commander by Dan E. Hendrickson. I was not disappointed. The book follows Jacob Edwards, a highly respected and skilled officer in the United States Coast Guard, as he is assigned a top-secret mission to prevent a terrorist attack targeting oil production in the Gulf of Mexico. With special forces training and a dynamic approach to his work, Jacob is the perfect choice for this high-profile assignment, which he takes on with the help of his crew aboard the First Responder, a prestigious and well-armed ship.

However, Jacob and his team are not the only ones with a stake in the mission. They must also contend with Boris Rasmov, a Russian mercenary hired by the Saudi Royal Family to sabotage the US oil rigs and disrupt production. The story moves between Jacob's perspective and Boris's, giving readers a full understanding of both sides of the conflict.

The author's meticulous attention to detail in regard to the Coast Guard and its various operations was truly impressive. They masterfully used vivid descriptive language to bring the various characters and settings to life, allowing the reader to fully immerse themselves in the story. The minor and major characters were expertly developed, and their roles and emotions were clearly conveyed throughout the narrative. One character, in particular, Jacob, stood out to me as a particularly well-crafted and multi-dimensional individual. I was captivated by his ability to navigate his emotions and make tough choices while under immense stress and pressure. Overall, the author's writing truly brought the world of the Coast Guard to life and made for a highly engaging and enjoyable reading experience.

The plot of the book was incredibly captivating, and the pacing was fast-moving, with a constant influx of new characters who brought additional layers and complexity to the narrative. Despite my desire for a heightened level of suspense, I ultimately found the book to be a tremendously enjoyable experience. The language utilized was straightforward and effortless to comprehend, making for an enjoyable reading experience.

I was satisfied with the plot, character, and overall pace of this book. I found nothing to complain about, and given this, I rate this book five out of five stars. It was also well edited.

As I delved deeper into the pages, I found myself completely enthralled by the intricate plot and the diverse cast of characters. Each chapter introduced new elements to the story, keeping me on the edge of my seat as I eagerly turned the pages to discover what would happen next. Despite the lack of suspense that I initially noticed, the overall narrative was engaging and kept me fully engaged from start to finish. Additionally, the simplicity of the language used in the book made it accessible and easy for me to follow along, enhancing my overall reading experience. Overall, I would highly recommend this book to anyone seeking a captivating and engaging read.
