[Following is a volunteer review of "Reconfigurement" by E. Alan Fleischauer.]
Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer is a nonfiction, comprehensive guide on financial subject matter. The book begins by comparing traditional retirement solutions with reality. The traditional retirement financial plan is a number-oriented plan that focuses on investment assets, while the reconfigured financial plan focuses on planning ahead, long-term care insurance for social security, reverse mortgages, career turning points, money management, and pre- and post-retirement activities like gainful employment. Modern problems require modern solutions; hence, the existing retirement solutions require adjustment to meet today’s needs. The book covers topics on income, career assessments in order to ensure choosing the best-fit career on the basis of one’s preferences, useful online software on financial and retirement planning, life insurance policies like income protection and disability insurance policies, social security, investment choices, 401(k) and IRAs, Medicare and Medicaid to ensure affordable health insurance, long-term care, wills and trusts, and part-time jobs and working from home. The main focus of the book is planning ahead in order to have direction and support in terms of finances. It emphasizes choosing jobs you love and having fun before retirement. In addition, it offers advice on how to understand the insurance policies, like the disability insurance policy, in order to understand what it covers and what it doesn’t.
The positive aspects of the book are the simple language and ease of understanding. The author doesn’t use complex language in economics, although his major discussion is financial-based. The use of humor through financial puns and jokes made the book interesting to read. The use of links to previously used resources, recommendations of resources to use, and other expert resources made the book unique. I liked the author’s use of examples and practical knowledge from experience, as well as related stories. The book is written in a conversational tone, which makes it easy to follow.
I didn’t find any negative aspects of the book, although I’d recommend the author expand his targeted audience. The book is written for U.S. citizens and may be a little challenging for non-American citizens.
I’d rate the book 5 out of 5 stars since it’s easy to read and each concept is well explained.
I’d recommend Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer to American citizens since it’s written specifically for them. Anyone thinking of investment, financial planning, or retirement planning would also love it. It’s also fit for teenagers, as it focuses on planning ahead, career assessments, and having fun before retirement.
