Reconfigurement by E. Alan Fleischauer is a very short non- fiction self help book. This book helps you in planning your retirement and to make wise financial decisions. Reconfiguring financial planning is about reconfiguring your life at any stage and planning in advance. Alan focused on topics like personal finance and financial planning. Alan has been a financial advisor for 20 years and he did his best to bridge the gap between reality and tradition. He tried to make his audience aware and inculcate the habit of making informed decisions.

Alan has been a financial manager for 20 years which increased the credibility of the knowledge he imparted through his book. Reconfigurement consists of short 13 chapters which made it easier for me to read, long chapters often lead to losing the audience’s attention and interest. Alan used a conversational tone in the book and he used humor in all the right places and everywhere where it was possible. When the topic was overwhelming, he did add some witty instances or comments from his life, and to be honest that part was my favorite. That kept me hooked throughout my reading.

It felt like Alan was only addressing American audience as he kept referring to American rules and laws. For an instance, he mentioned rule 401k and I had to google what was that. For your convenience, 401k is a retirement savings plan offered by many American employers that has tax advantage for the savers. This is something only American citizens would know. It was like he wrote this book while keeping Americans in his mind.

I would rate Reconfigurement 5 out of 5. I found it very resourceful and educative. Alan did provide us with many book recommendations that we can read on “Working from Home”. He even gave many links that can be useful to us and gave his opinion on how he felt when he used them or how reliable they are. Terminologies weren’t like rocket science, they were understandable or he himself explained those terms when they were not so common or tricky. Author tried to keep the readers mood light and didn’t just bombarded us with all the facts and information, the flow of the book was easy to follow.

I would recommend this book to people around age 30-40; someone who is nearing his/her retirement or wants to start planning their retirement. But even for younger audience it would be very informative book. Readers who are finance enthusiasts will also enjoy reading this.
