Review of Terms of Service

[Following is a volunteer review of "Terms of Service" by Craig W. Stanfill.]
Kim is an ambitious employee at the Artificial Intelligence Company who dreams of working with higher-order AIs. Despite feeling unfulfilled in her current job, she holds on to the hope that a promotion may be in her future. However, a chance discovery on an old road with her friend Shan leads to a confrontation with her boss, forcing her to question her own free will and the morality of both the AIs' actions and those who run the company—things she never bothered herself with before.
As Kim becomes more involved with the Artificial Intelligence Company's operations, she finds herself in a struggle for survival against the company that could determine her fate. Although she has special privileges and a higher social status than most people, she does not want to be confined to a cage or lose sight of who she is. Terms of Service is a dystopian science fiction novel about individualism in a society that constantly forces its citizens to conform. Firstly, the novel's unique world-building, including the use of a fictional language called Panglobal and the alternate naming conventions for cities and characters, adds an extra layer of intrigue. Craig tells the story in simple, easy-to-understand language, with a few scientific terms for good measure.
I was drawn to this novel by its genre and Craig’s credentials, which lend credibility to the content. Because of this, I enjoyed reading the descriptions in the book, especially the personification of the AIs. It is astonishing what AI could do if it attained the levels envisioned in this novel. Although the beginning is somewhat slow, as it primarily focuses on world-building, the rest of the plot is fast-paced. The character development, particularly of the main character Kim, is superbly done, as we see her transform and grow throughout the story.
The editorial team did a fantastic job, as there were no errors or typos in the text. However, there are several things I did not find appealing in this novel. One is a large amount of erotic content, and another is the emphasis on drug use for pleasure, especially during intimacy. There is also some profanity in the book.
Overall, Terms of Service is a thought-provoking and engaging read that will appeal to fans of dystopian fiction. While it may not be for everyone, it is worth considering for those looking for a unique story that involves a search for truth, a well-developed protagonist, and a sneak peek into what could be. As a result, I give Terms of Service 5 out of 5 stars for capturing my attention and eliciting thoughtful questions in my mind.
