[Following is a volunteer review of "Reconfigurement" by E. Alan Fleischauer.]
We all at some point think about growing older one day, I am not sure how deeper you have gone along those thoughts. I have never been clear on what that may look like, and what I needed to have in place for my life beyond 70 years of age should I live that long. Reconfigurement is where some of these answers are.
Reconfigurement is a nonfiction book comprising 108 pages authored by E. Alan Fleischauer. Its first edition was published in June 2022. The book poses many questions that help the reader begin to acknowledge the importance of career and retirement planning, to not only understand it but also embrace the proper role of financial planning during these processes. It provides the resources and fuel anyone would need to live into their future when they get older – life after retirement. It breaks down various components that requires building overtime to avoid experiencing the discomfort that may arise with special needs and limitations that comes along with old age.
These key components ranged from retirement strategies, insurance, health, income, death, and jobs, among others. What I loved most about it is that reconfiguring is possible at any age, the author states that it is never too late to start asking the daunting questions about the transitions we will be needing to make in life. I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was, the author did well in presenting even difficult topics in a simple and easy to understand narrative. The author tells simple and fascinating stories behind various tools in the book. The book is written with a great sense of humour, I loved the jokes he told through each chapter, my favourite one is the one about a man whose wife told him that she would burn thoughtless gifts he would get her, so he got her a candle.
Reading through this book was engaging and practical, the author shared several personality and career assessment tests and their sources, these helps determine personality types which can aid one to align better with career options. I found these interesting as I personally learnt a lot about myself through his recommended tools.
I liked that the book offers rich content, it just doesn’t contain topics on how to reconfigure your life journey. It offers the readers concepts and exercises to understand the different options available through the private sector and government, as well as an analysis of Pros and Cons that one can learn more on and adapt to fit their needs. This brings out intriguing insights which can have one reflecting right there. Moreover, the author appears to be a great mentor in this field. Reading this book was like personally talking to a mentor on my retirement planning. I could hear the passion in the author’s writing voice. It’s very inspiring and empowering.
The only thing I disliked about the book where the highlight boxes he used for the jokes, some are too big and badly positioned. But this aspect did not affect my overall enjoyment while reading this book.
The book lived up to my expectations, it was a revealing read-through, I plan to pick it up again in the future. I rate it 5 out of 5 stars because of its rich content, exciting stories, and jokes, engaging and sense of humour of the author.
The book seems to have been professionally edited since I encountered no errors. I recommend this book to persons who wish to realign to their purpose in life. Especially those in the 9-5 jobs and are interested in learning more about how to plan for retirement, The value this book brings to the table is immeasurable. While anyone in the working age can read it, it is a great asset for those above the age of 30.
