[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]
We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies is a fantasy novel that follows the story of a young man named Galen Bray as he tries to make a new life for himself in the kingdom of Voulhire. The book is written by Matthew T. Price and is the first in a series.
One of the most impressive aspects of this book is its well-developed world-building. The kingdom of Voulhire is a fully realized place with its own cultures, traditions, and politics. The author does an excellent job of immersing the reader in this world, and I found myself really caring about the characters and their struggles. The political intrigue and class dynamics in the kingdom added depth to the story and kept me engaged. The descriptions of the landscapes and cities in Voulhire are vivid and make the world feel alive.
Another strength of the book is its strong character development. Galen Bray is a likable protagonist who is easy to root for. He is determined and resourceful, but also has flaws and vulnerabilities that make him relatable. The supporting cast is also well-rounded and interesting, each with their own motivations and personalities. The author does a great job of fleshing out the characters and making them feel like real people. The relationships between the characters are well-written and add depth to the story.
One of the negative aspects of the book is that it can be slow-paced at times. There are moments when the plot drags on and I find myself wanting the story to move along more quickly. However, this is a minor complaint and did not significantly impact my overall enjoyment of the book. The slow pace is also balanced out by action-packed scenes that keep the reader on the edge of their seat.
Overall, I would give We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies a rating of 4 out of 5 stars. While it does have some slow moments, the strong world-building and character development more than make up for it. The book is an enjoyable read and I would recommend it to fans of fantasy novels. The ending sets up the next book in the series well and left me wanting more.
In terms of errors, I did not notice any typos or spelling mistakes while reading. There were a few instances of awkward or clunky prose, but these were infrequent and did not significantly impact my reading experience.
In conclusion, We Are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies is a solid fantasy novel with strong world-building and character development. It is a bit slow at times, but overall, it is an enjoyable read that I would recommend to fans of the genre. The ending leaves the reader wanting more and I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. If you enjoy epic fantasy novels with fully realized worlds and well-developed characters, you should definitely give this book a chance.
