The Prophecy of the Heron is the thrilling sequel to Craig W. Stanfill’s Terms of Service. The book picks up right where we left off with Kim being bussed to her new home in the slums of District 33. Here she discovers a while different society filled with desperate people who would do anything to survive. She learns new skills, makes new friends and new enemies, and decides to take action against the company who destroyed her life and the AI she loved. She embarks on a journey filled with new discoveries, plot twists and reality shattering truths all to save herself and her beloved AI. You will be transported into her world and as Kim starts to question her reality as she knows it, you too will find yourself questioning the world you live in.

There were plenty of things to love about this book starting with the continuity. I love a book that starts off right where we left off. Stanfill also did not spend too much time or any recapping the events of the previous book and only in a way that felt natural to the character thinking about the past. I loved how we got to see a new side to this world the author created and see glimpses of our own world in it which made it all to real. I enjoyed seeing a different side of all the characters especially the villains, which made me question who the real villains were. The ending of this books ties was a great ending and resolved most of the issues that arose in the first book. As for the issues found in this book, we will have painfully wait for the third installment, and it will be painful. In the Authors note of this book Stanfill mentions he will be taking a break from writing so it may be a few years before we see how Kim’s story ends.

Overall, I give this book the rating of five out of five stars and four out of four stars. There is absolutely nothing to dislike about this book.

I would highly recommend this book (and the first one if you haven’t read) to anyone who is a fan of dystopian futures and difficult existential questions. There is no profanity and minor suggestive content that may make it unsuitable for those under 14 but nothing to graphic to ban anyone from reading it. I really enjoyed this book and truly am not sure if I can wait for the sequel.
