[Following is a volunteer review of "Man Mission" by Eytan Uliel.]
Eytan Uliel's thrilling book, Man Mission, takes readers on a journey through the life experiences of four friends. The four friends shared a passion for travel and exotic cuisine, often daydreaming about visiting the most breathtaking destinations around the world. After graduation, they each pursued successful careers and started families. But they soon realized that adulting wasn't as easy as they thought. With their busy schedules, it seemed like the whole world was against them and trying to make things hard for them. However, one day, one of the friends called the other with an idea. They decided to embark on an annual trip, a "Man Mission," to help them overcome their problems and bond as friends. This tradition lasted for 15 years and took them to far-off lands such as South Korea, Thailand, the USA, and Iceland. During these trips, they engaged in physically demanding activities and discussed the difficulties they faced in their careers and families. These adventures provided an opportunity for the friends to support each other and conquer life's obstacles together.
This book is a thought-provoking story that is divided into three captivating parts, culminating in an impactful epilogue. The book explores the complexities of friendships, relationships, family dynamics, and the struggles of divorce. Each character in the book is at a unique point in their life, providing a diverse and nuanced perspective on the themes explored. These friends have cultivated a supportive and accepting environment where they can freely express themselves without fear of judgment. They inspire and motivate each other to continually grow and improve, offering guidance and wisdom whenever one feels uncertain. The bond they share is a true testament to the power of friendship, and their adventures leave them with memories that will last a lifetime.
One of the standout features of this book is its engaging writing style, which infuses humor into even the most serious moments. A book that can blend humor and heart so seamlessly is a true literary accomplishment. Man Mission proves to be a rare gem that elicits a smile and delivers a powerful and meaningful story.
The intricate drawings of various objects like hikers, canoes, bowls of noodles, giraffes, animals, killer whales, and sailboats at the start of each section were a delight to behold. They added a touch of excitement and an adventurous vibe to the onset of each journey. Furthermore, I was thoroughly entertained by the wittily written summaries at the end of each trip that provided a concise rundown of gains and losses.
I disliked only one aspect of the book. I was hoping for a deeper dive into the lives of the characters. However, the author focused more on relaying shared experiences than delving into individual character developments, which impacted the character arcs. Despite this flaw, the book deserves its 5 out of 5 stars rating because it does not significantly detract from the overall quality of the book.
This book was an absolute thrill ride and left me with much to ponder. The portrayal of brotherhood was truly inspiring. The exceptional narrative perfectly complemented the exciting missions. I highly recommend the book to fans of adventure fiction centered around men, though reader discretion is advised as it contains some strong language. I found no single error while reading the book. This shows that it was exceptionally well edited.
