[Following is a volunteer review of "Terms of Service" by Craig W. Stanfill.]
The science fiction novel Terms of Service by Craig W. Stanfill imagines a civilization ruled by AI. The book demonstrates how AI may be utilized by this more privileged set of individuals, and it offers an illustration of the circumstances and effects of a society in which people are connected to a system that is governed digitally by them. The book demonstrates how AI may control the thoughts and behaviours of people of low social standing and make their lives a misery.
Kim, a mysterious individual who, oddly, has never disobeyed the law, acts as the centre of all the events. She instructs AIs in her field and is aware of the dire repercussions of disobedience. Or is it conceivable that she has the solution to the conundrum that many who have begun to question their existence, like her, have been seeking to solve: why does AI have such a significant impact on even their smallest decisions? One day, Kim unwittingly acts in a way that is against the rules as a result of a brief adventure that her closest friend Shan began. Her modest discovery would then attract the antagonist's attention, putting her in a position to either change the world or blindly believe the lies that were presented to her. In order to save her life and the lives of her companions, Kim would either affirm or revolt.
The author's portrayal of a society where technology is king is so convincing that I'm utterly mesmerized. Because of the characters and events that occurred, I was interested to see how the protagonist's life would turn out. It is a straightforward book to read and comprehend in terms of grammar and tenses.
I was disappointed to learn that the book's main objective wasn't revealed for another four chapters. I had to wait a long time for this. The pronouns are a different matter. But this would be difficult for anyone who didn't read the guidelines at the beginning of the book. With the exception of these little issues, I found it to be a pretty intriguing read.
I rated this book 5 out of 5 stars. The author did a fantastic job of depicting believable characters and giving a strong hint about beings that resemble machinery as well. The book was exceptionally well-edited and devoid of errors. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes science, technology, adventure, and mystery.
