Audiobooks.com is a membership-based website that allows members to download and listen to audio books. The site offers a 30-day free trial, and after the 30 days, there are a few membership options to choose from. The basic membership costs $14.95 per month and gives members using this option one credit per month, which is enough to get one audio book per month. The site also has a two-books-per-month option and an unlimited option (at a higher membership price, of course). One nice feature is that the one- and two-book per month memberships allow credits to roll over from one month to the next if you don’t use them. Also, if you go with the one- or two-book per month option, you can always buy additional credits if you want another book before you get your next credits.
Audiobooks.com is easy to use, and with their free app, members can listen to their purchased books anywhere. Another great feature is that books sync between devices, so members can have convenient access to their audio books at all times. I personally was able to use my iPad and iPhone to listen to my audio book, and I was very pleased with the syncing between those two devices.
I was very impressed with the selection available on Audiobooks.com. Not only does the site have a vast array of book options, but they also have multiple narrator options for many books. For example, I chose to download The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand. This book has two options: one is narrated by Christopher Hurt and the other is narrated by Edward Herrmann. I think the ability to choose which narrator you would like to hear is an important factor when it comes to how enjoyable you will find the book, so I think this is a great feature on the site. Members are also able to search audio books by narrator so if you find that you really like a certain narrator and want to listen to more books that person has narrated, it’s easy to find them.
Audiobooks.com has an easy to use playback mode with play, pause, and rewind 30 seconds or fast forward 30 seconds. The site also tells you how much time is left until the end of your book (as well as the total audio time of your book). You can also add books to an audiobooks.com wishlist so if you find a book you want to download but don’t want to spend money on extra credits, you can save that book until you get your credits for the next month.
I would rate this site 3 out of 4 stars. I was very happy with the quality, the selection, and the syncing capabilities of this site. The only reason I would not give it a 4 out of 4 is because there wasn’t anything spectacular about the site that would greatly set it apart from other similar sites.
