Our favorite terrorist-thwarting duo, Lara and Uri, stop yet another plan to take down the United States in The Date Farm by Jack Winnick. This is the fourth book in the series, but it can be read as a stand-alone. The book opens with a shooting at a Beverly Hills shopping mall by terrorists who then commit suicide. Of course, Lara and Uri get called in to investigate the incident. Not long after, there’s a bank heist. The robbers are none other than the terrorists Lara and Uri have been fighting for four books now. The terrorists didn’t steal money; instead, they attacked the vaults of the Federal Reserve and the Chase Manhattan Bank. It looks like an attempt at stealing the US’s gold, but they steal a much more valuable resource: a rare metal used in the production of warplanes. So Lara and Uri are on the case to stop the bank heist and retrieve the stolen goods.

I can’t say enough good things about this book. Lara and Uri are some of my favorite characters, and I was so happy to see the two finally married. I loved the terrorists’ plot. It was intriguing and new, yet not so far-fetched that it seemed unrealistic. I thought the foreshadowing for the mole was good as well. It wasn’t blatantly obvious, but I wasn’t surprised when I found out who it was. I liked that the reveal wasn’t a big betrayal for shock value. The pacing was perfect. There was enough action to keep the book interesting, but not so much at once as to make the book overwhelming. The Date Farm is one of the best books in this series so far.

The only negative thing I have to say about this book is that this book confused me over the timeline of the whole series. I had been a little confused in previous books, but I had more trouble in this book. At one point in the book, it mentions that the events in the first book took place five years ago. The previous book stated that the first book had occurred nearly ten years before. And there were a few other inconsistencies with the timeline of the series. The timeline confusion is a minor complaint. I only started the series a couple of months ago, so the previous books are fresh in my mind. I don’t think another reader would notice if they were reading the series over a long period with breaks in between, and it certainly wouldn’t be an issue if it was read as a stand-alone.

I rate this book 5 out of 5. It seems professionally edited, and I only found one minor error. It’s exciting and action-packed. The use of science and technology is perfect. There’s enough information that isn’t common knowledge explained to the reader in a digestible manner that seems legitimate. I haven’t looked up everything, but what I have checked appears to be correct. It’s one of the best books I’ve read in a long time.

I would recommend this book to anyone who loves mysteries and adventures. While the book is pretty mild, it’s still about fighting terrorists, so it may not be suitable for younger teenagers. The book is very pro-Israel, pro-United States, and anti-terrorism, so it’s best read by people who also share those views. It’s a great book that I highly recommend.
