Thrill, suspense, satisfaction, anger, bewilderment, sadness and disbelief are all feelings I experienced while reading The Man Who Fell Too Far. Its author, Roger Corea, who believes in not letting his book learning affect his education (a quote by Mark Twain), wrote a page turner. The Man Who Fell Too Far, set in the towns of Bridgetown and Schroon Lake, tells the story of the lives of two best friends, Jeff Walden, who was a free spirit who loved to be out in nature, and Michael Alexander, a successful businessman and family man. It tells of their triumphs and struggles in marriage, work and their everyday encounters and how they deal with them in order for the reader to ultimately determine who fell too far.

I enjoyed reading this novel. It was interesting, engaging, realistic and relatable. I liked that the author didn’t allow me to get bored at all. Whenever I thought I knew which direction the story was going, the author went in another shocking direction. For example, when I thought it was over for one of the characters, the author pulled a shocking stunt with an unbelievable recovery. I also liked that a back story was given for each of the characters, allowing me to create a connection with them and be better able to understand why they make the choices they make. In addition, I enjoyed the graphic descriptions. It made me feel as if I was seeing it all in person. For example, when the author describes the surroundings when Jeff was on the lake or when he was describing the scene when Michael stepped into Luigi’s the day he met Jeff.

Other than how it ended, there is nothing I disliked about The Man Who Fell Too Far. I can’t say what I disliked about the ending without giving spoilers to other readers, so I’ll just leave it at that.

I rate The Man Who Fell Too Far 5 out of 5 stars. It was thrilling to read, very interesting and I loved every minute of the suspense and wonder it evoked. It was well written, very realistic and relatable. It seems to have been professionally edited, as I only found a few minor errors.

I would recommend this book to adult readers who love a realistic, thrilling and suspense-filled novel. I would not recommend it for teen readers due to the presence of graphic scenes of sexual, emotional and physical abuse.
