[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]
"We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz is a collection of interconnected stories that take place in the fictional kingdom of Voulhire. The book starts with an intruder attacking guards at Castle Hillport, aided by his allies, and rendering the guards' arrows useless. Lord Orlin, accused of indecent acts upon children, denies the accusations, and his bodyguard attacks the magistrate, resulting in their deaths. The book also narrates the story of the Emperor of Lullabies and his four sons, who turned on each other in a civil war, leading to poverty and misery on their islands.
Ruka escapes his past by boarding a ship to Voulhire, where he joins a group of travelers seeking their fortunes. A young man on a journey to Magnum Caelum meets an old man who encourages him to be the author of his own story. The book also describes the Feast of Human Hands, a festival that celebrates prosperity and prays for a prosperous future. King Wilhelm Arcolo returns to Soulhire after a successful military campaign, and despite the news that Lorcia's Isle is surrounded by 29 frigates, he remains calm.
There is a lot that is good in this book as it provides glimpses into richly imagined worlds full of adventure, magic, and political drama. Firstly, it tells various works of fiction, including stories about fantasy kingdoms, rulers, and battles. It describes an intrusion into a castle by a powerful magician and his allies. There is also the story of a ruler exiling his four sons to small islands to defend themselves, leading to a civil war. Additionally, a young man's journey to a unique land called Voulhire, where people have all the tools to build a perfect world, evokes a sense of grandeur and celebration, with depictions of parades, banquets, and festivals.
To me, the book is so interesting; however, some people may not like how it is filled with scenes of violence, corruption, and abuse of power. As at the beginning, a magistrate uses brute force and kills guards and archers, while Lord Orlin flees in panic. Secondary, Lord Meldorath, who punished a perverted lord, is arrested and taken away, and his fate is unknown. Also, a wicked ruler exiled his sons, leading to a brutal civil war. In addition, depict journeys to Voulhire taken by characters seeking to escape their pasts or discover their own identities. Finally, King Wilhelm Arcolo returns to the capital city of Soulhire, where he faces possible trouble in the northwest and is insulted by his chancellor.
As a person who enjoys fantasy and adventures, the book "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival Under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz met my expectations. No errors were detected, meaning it was professionally edited. Therefore, I rate this 5 out of 5 stars.
This book may appeal to readers who enjoy the fantasy and adventure genres. Those who enjoy stories with intrigue and political plots may also find it interesting. The book features themes such as power struggles, revenge, survival, and redemption. The use of vivid and descriptive language to create immersive worlds and characters could also appeal to readers who enjoy immersive storytelling.
