We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz tells the story of Galen Bray, a young man from the lands of Princes, which are undergoing great wars and suffering. As luck may have it, he was able to escape being killed by boarding a ship to Magnum Caelum, a city in the Kingdom of Voulhire, where he is to meet and inherit his dying uncle's possessions. Arriving in Magnum Caelum, he met his uncle's executor, Rowan, who helped him take control of the necessary properties and went as far as showing him everything he needs to take over his uncle's business.

King Wilhelm of Voulhire is a man who betrays friendship due to his fear of being overthrown and is willing to sacrifice lives to cover up his lie. He is a king who is troubled by the political power struggle between himself and Midius Maido, chancellor of the Mianoran Council. The Kingdom of Voulhire may not be as united as it seems on the surface.

Eldus Alderman, a former judge turned Lord of Hillport, must now find a way to bring the town to its full potential while ensuring that the fear of his predecessors is a distant memory in the minds of the town's people. Can he do that knowing that he has to feed them lies while keeping the town safe?

I love Rowan's character and his great sense of humor, as well as his free spirit and kind heart. He did not need to go as far as he did for Galen, as he was not only the executor of Galen's uncle's estate but also became a friend and a good advisor to Galen, even though he didn't need to go that far because his employer is no longer alive and he has been paid for his job.

The author was able to instill a sense of mystery and deep fear around Lord Meldorath. I first loved how each event was told as it added mystery and suspense to the story, but as the story unfolded, I grew impatient with knowing how all the parts, especially Galen's, would connect to each other. Though remembering that this book is the first in a series helped to calm my impatience, there seems to be so much mystery yet to be unveiled about the Kingdom of Voulhire, its neighboring kingdoms, and the magical universe of Caromentis. The scenes where the men were dancing while fighting are difficult to imagine yet well described, and I would love to see them in real life.

The map was useful in following Galen and Rowan on their journey and navigating the road to Voulhire cities. The glossary at the end of the book was also very helpful, as I could understand certain terms and the names of people mentioned in the book. Also, there were some scenes of fighting and killing in the book.

I found nothing I disliked about the book, and I very much love to uncover each mystery that unfolds in the next series. The book was well edited, as I found no errors. For these reasons, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars and therefore recommend it to mature teenagers and those who love reading books on mystery, suspense, and magic.

I was so happy that Galen was able to escape from the land of the princes. Voulhire offeres him new opportunities to grow and experience lives in ways he had never done before.

I loved Rowan's character as well, and his sense of humour was great. The mystery surrounding the book pushes me to continue the series. I need to know how it all unravels! I love your review. The name of the book itself is intriguing. I wanted to know the meaning of voluhire before anything else and while I try to grasp how the author came about that title, am taken on a journey of perspectives and adventures. I like the plot twist and turns of the events in this story. It’s a 5 for me and I look forward to reading the rest of the series
