Man Mission by Eytan Uliel is a story of adventure, travel and the lives of four men whose firm friendships in each other guide them through the challenges they face in their personal lives. The four men - Eytan, Daniel, Alec, Sam - meet at college and it is at one of these college events, a food fair, that their pact of “Man missions” is conceived. Little do they know the scale of the journey that lays ahead of them.

Flashforward to the future, the four men are living separate adult lives each filled with its challenges, their pact forgotten in chaos that is adulthood. Sam phones Eytan and rekindle their long-lost idea of “Man missions” and Eytan gladly joins the adventure. They venture off to New Zealand together joined by Alec and Daniel later on. With each new adventure the four bond deeply to each other as they travel from place-to-place spanning countries and continents. As they open up to each other their personal lives are exposed to the reader and we see the struggles that men face – marital problems, children, professions and so on. It is both joyful and painful to read as the reader experiences the struggles and reality of adult life along with the characters.

The author lays down the plot with humor and simple language. He dives into both masculine aspects of a modern man’s life and the emotional aspects too, not only do they spend time discovering new places but also take on an introspective view into themselves with each destination. The value of having true companions in life and the less talked about struggles in a man’s life are conveyed by the author. We go through a roller-coaster of ups and downs with these characters and the genuine comfort they find in each other is beautiful.

Although the book does include some profanity and sexual encounters it is done tastefully and adds to the pacing of the story. However, I would not recommend it to younger ages. It is a wonderful read suited for ages 18 and above and would be greatly enjoyed by those who travel and live life chasing adventure themselves. My only criticism is that the author could have gone a little more into depth on the struggles of being a father and the internal conflict the protagonist feels from what he goes through.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars as it is edited without a fault, has a great story and many morals sprinkled within. The author has done a splendid job of not only making it adventurous, emotional and comedic but it is also very expressive and ignites the desire to travel in the reader’s mind.
