We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Mattew Tysz, a sci-fi and fantasy novel, is the first book in the Voulhire series. It describes Galen Bray, a young orphan turned refugee due to the war in the Land of Princes, where he came from. He is lucky to have escaped from the Land of Princes to the land of Voulhire, where his late uncle, Onita left him an inheritance. While thankful for the opportunity to start fresh, Galen is determined to prove himself worthy of inheriting his uncle's wealth.

The Land of Princes comprises three distinct countries ruled by the sons of the Emperor of Lullabies. The Emperor's aim in sharing his kingdom was for each of his sons to rule to avoid conflict and foster peace. This separation still didn't suit their greed, so war and suffering were prevalent in the country. On Galen's arrival in Voulhire, King Wilhem, unaware of the new arrival to his kingdom, celebrates the Feast of Human Hands to promote unity and prosperity among his people. Despite the king's efforts to maintain oneness in his kingdom, some underground plans were made to thwart his plans and destabilise the kingdom. The High Chancellor of the Mianoran Council, Midius Maido, tried to manipulate the king's son Darius and the powerful and dreaded Meldorath, who was claimed to be dead. How is well-natured and peace-loving Galen caught up in all these? Is he prepared for the things that will face him at Voulhire? The only way to find out is to read this book.

We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is a book filled with action, horror, magic, drama, war, and politics. There are so many things I enjoyed about this book. Firstly, I love how suspenseful and unpredictable the events in this book turned out to be. And this made the entire book so intriguing, and the question of what would happen next made me remain so glued to this book. Also, the author's detailed descriptions of the various locations mentioned in this book, including Magnum Caelum, Hillport, Alcolvia, and most especially Voulhire, with its map, amongst others, will enable readers to travel to these places, know their cultures, and understand their histories whilst reading this book. The many intriguing characters in this book, each with their unique personalities, and the wonderful blend of the historical and modern worlds were other things I loved about this book. I look forward to reading other installments in this series.

There was nothing I didn't like about this book. However, this book would be better structured if it were organised into chapters, and I would have also loved it if the female characters in this book were more visible and outspoken. But these are not enough to remove a star from its rating. This book was professionally edited, as I found no grammatical errors while reading.

In conclusion, I'll rate this book 5 out of 5 stars because of its intriguing twists and turns, fantastic characterisation, and remarkable combination of magic, politics, and war, amongst others. The instances of profanity in this book were vital for its storyline. I recommend this book to mature readers interested in action and magic-filled fantasy novels.

Galen Bray did a smart thing by going to a land where he wouldn't be noticed. The land he escaped had people searching for his head because of a challenge between the Princes. It was kind of expected from a greedy king who didn't want to give his throne to anyone.

Galen for me is the beauty of this book and I love that the author took time to develop his character. From the land of the Princes he returned home to see the wealth he has.
