[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz is a book that deepens our understanding or transports us to the Middle Ages. It features a superb combination of themes relating to family, love, adventure, and a struggle for the upper hand, and is set in a fantasy and mystery environment. Throughout the book, the author informs us about Galen's life story, the struggles he faced, and numerous other tales.
Galen thought about leaving the Land of Princes and did so after learning about the struggle for dominance. He decided to travel to Voulhire, a nation with a king at its helm and a collection of cities. While there, he discovered that his uncle had given him a life he had never anticipated. The king, who looked out for his subjects on the other side of the nation, had enemies trying to keep him in line while in power. He assigned Lord Eldus to Hillport, a well-known city. Lord Eldus had to provide for the needs of the populace there, but he had no idea what would happen to him and his family.
The development of the characters and the creation of their world are two aspects of the book We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies by Matthew Tysz that I truly enjoyed. This book features characters with a variety of characteristics and viewpoints that the author has created in his world. I found it admirable that the author did not introduce the plot point right away. There was an explanation of what their world was all about, what it was made of, and how it had developed historically. Character development and progress were also there, and the author wrote the story such that readers could follow each character's path and what, eventually, they hoped to accomplish for themselves. Because I could completely relate to what various characters in the novel wanted to accomplish, I grew to like them.
There was nothing about this book that I could dislike. I particularly like how the author took the time to create the realm of Voulhire by including a map of that world. Lord Eldus is a figure I liked because of his commitment to improving life for the Hillport residents. I had a lot of respect for that character because of this. The book was exceptionally well-edited, and I could not find any mistakes while reading it. Because the author put so much effort into developing the characters and creating their distinct world, I would give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars. I simply could not put this book down.
I would advise reading this book if you like reading books about fantasy, retribution, and action. Furthermore, I would also suggest this book to anybody who appreciates historical fiction or works set in the medieval era.
