Ben, the trouble student and Esther, the ace student will graduate Engineering College soon. They are assigned to work together on an essai about the Ceremony of the Calling on an Engineer. Alec, a hard worker and an aspiring engineer worked on the construction site of the first Quebec Bridge. He received a diary as a wedding gift from his wife, where he wrote his day. The diary was very well preserved and hidden, until Ben and Esther found it.

On the historic side we have Alec, a poor young man who just married a rich young miss, wanted to give her a better lifestyle than what he has to offer. He worked his way around and became an apprentice engineer at the construction sites. On the modern side we have Ben O'Betany, a student who want to enjoy college on its full extent and Esther Emami, the quite and very dutiful student. Thanks to professor Mclaury, they were paired together to write an essay about the Iron Ring, a ring an Engineer receive after the Ceremony of the Calling of an Engineer.

The Bridge by Andrew Palmer is one of those book that are fiction based on true event. It reflected well the story of the Quebec Bridge and its collapse. It's a story inside a story inside a story. This is a book where the Modern era crosses path with history. The details written in the book are all spot on. In addition, the characters are all realistic, so it seems like we read the real story.

This book deserves a 5 out of 5 for its wonderful informative story. It helps us, reader aknowledge the existence of the Ceremony and the Iron Ring and the reason behind it. In addition, as the ceremony is a private one, the author respected that so he did not write about what happens, not even in a fictious way. What I really like about this book is that the story is solely about the Iron Ring and it did not drift to some sort of romance. It really makes this book stand out amoung other book in the same category.

If you are a lover of historical fiction based on true event stories; a modern day x history tales, then this book is written for you. More importantly, if you are curous about the Ceremony of the Calling of an Engineer, this story is made for you.
