The free book I selected was "Murder on Amsterdam Avenue" by Victoria Thompson. My other choice was "The Angel Court Affair" by Anne Perry. Both of these books were available and on my wish list, but I could only select one free book. If this is a free trial period, more free books should be be available during the free trial. The offer seems unclear. It states the time span is one free month, but only one free book is allowed.
I found the app somewhat difficult to download on my Kindle. After getting messages that my device was not compatible with this app, I was finally able to use app in the mp3 mode. This feature needs to be corrected to provide ease for users. It could be a definite reason users would not subscribe to this service.
I did find Audible had a wide range of books that I was interested in. Two books were on my "to read" list and are written by my favorite authors, so I selected one of those. The book I selected is not available at my local library, so this was a reason to recommend Audible. The site allows listening to samples before making a final book selection. These samples provide the additional information needed before making a book choice. This is a good option in my opinion.
The audio sound was excellent, but the audio did not play continuously without interruptions while I listened. During the time I listened to the audio, I would be logged out causing the audio to stop. After logging in again, I was able to continue listening. The site bookmarks where the audio stopped, so it resumes at the point where the audio last stopped. I like this option, so I could divide my listening time into convenient segments. These performance issues, however, would keep me from subscribing to this site.
Audio books are not my format of choice in reading. I prefer the use of written eBooks rather than audio. In turn, I prefer my Kindle over hardcover books. I think the lighted feature on my Kindle is a great fit for me so I can set it side and not have to turn off a lamp to sleep. The question that needs to be addressed is whether I would become a paid member of Audible or not. Because I have access to many free eBooks via Kindle and my local library, I do not anticipate becoming a member. The price of $14.95, however, seems more reasonable compared to the price of Kindle Unlimited or Amazon Prime.
