Review of Terms of Service
Terms of Service: Subject to Change Without Notice gives an overview of Kim’s life. Kim's world features the Panglobal language, the absence of freedom of choice, and outrageous rules and regulations. Every part of life and the mind is controlled and scrutinized by AIs. Nutritional choices, procreation, and relationships are influenced and monitored. There are severe consequences for non-compliance with rules and regulations. Kim works as a trainer for the Artificial Intelligence Company. She obeys all the rules and regulations, earns points, and works her way up the scale of success, but she's troubled. Kim becomes uneasy when one of her friends returns to the east. Will she be able to stay out of trouble and keep her clean track record with this friend around? Read this game-changing novel for more details.
This novel starts slow, but things get more interesting as the story unfolds. I commend the author's writing style. This page-turner is packed with suspense and creates vivid mental pictures. Every time Kim stepped out, I could imagine everything she went through to get to work even her daily frustration with the uncooperative refrigerator. Craig W. Stanfill put all the necessary work and effort into making this book appealing. The detailed explanation of events and the background story of the characters makes this novel more credible. The author did a fantastic job building each character, and Kim was my favorite. She had everything she wanted, a lovely house, a dream job, friends, and money to engage in the latest fashion trends, but she still felt alone and empty. A part of this was due to her traumatic upbringing. She turned to alcohol to distract her from the emptiness she felt, but that was not enough.
Furthermore, I liked Keli’s character. Every one of Kim's conversations with Keli was refreshing. Despite the world in which Keli belongs, she did things according to her mind, and I believe she was not only a friend but a motherly figure for Kim as well. The characters are realistic, and I could picture a world governed by technology.
Although this book attempts to show us how technology can facilitate things, I found the control and surveillance aspect too extreme. Everything a person says or does is under scrutiny, including feelings and dressing. Another thing I found discomforting was the misuse of drugs for sexual activity. Nonetheless, I enjoyed reading this book. The storyline for this book was carefully thought out and developed. Humans and robots were told apart appropriately in the actual and virtual worlds, leaving no room for confusion. I consider the writing and editing of this book outstanding.
Likewise, I did not notice any spelling or grammatical errors, so I give it five out of five stars. I recommend Terms of Service by Craig W. Stanfill to sci-fi aficionados. This book also gives an in-depth insight into the AI world, and curious minds will appreciate such knowledge.
