[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is the first book in the series titled We are Voulhire. The story is set in a fictional land where magic is both revered and ridiculed. In this land, Lord Meldorath became a favorite of his people when he ousted their wicked ruler. To reward him for doing the people a favor, he was installed as their new ruler. However, Lord Meldorath fell short of everyone’s expectations. He became worse than their previous ruler. He was a mage, so he did not hesitate to use his magic for selfish reasons. This led to his imprisonment. Everyone could now breathe a sigh of relief because the great, wicked magician was finally out of their lives. Unknown to them, Meldorath was planning a grand return. Lord Meldorath, the great wizard, would rise again, but hopefully, someone stronger and kinder will rise to defeat him.
We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is exhilarating. I occasionally stopped reading to marvel at how good the story was. I have never read a story that kept me interested in it from the beginning. I have never read a book that had me rooting for both the good guys and the bad guys. Matthew Tysz told this story well.
Another thing that I liked was the fact that We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is part of a series. Reading a book that is part of a series can be tasking. I always like to finish what I start, so committing to a series is a big deal to me. What if the first book is boring? Then I have to do the unpleasant task of reading the remaining books in the series. Thankfully, I can never say reading this book was a chore. We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies was very interesting. The suspense was superb, leaving me with many questions that made me beg for answers. It being part of a series is my favorite or most liked thing about this book.
Disliking a thing in We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies was impossible. I do not usually actively search for something to dislike in books, but I did when reading this one. Why? Because it was just too good. When I was halfway through, I realized that I liked everything about it. I wanted to give you an honest review of the book, so I became extra careful when reading it. I even read it a second time. I am happy to tell you that I did not hate anything about it. Since I cannot say anything negative, I found it to be perfect.
If you carefully read everything I wrote above, you will know that the rating I would give We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is 5 out of 5 stars. It deserves it in every way. If I could hand out an award of excellence to Matthew Tysz, its author, I would. On top of everything he did to make the story so perfect, he also edited it exceptionally well. Now, if that is not something that is worthy of an award, I do not know what it is. I recommend We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies to those who like books about magic, mages, and a kingdom that is thrown into despair because of a mage whose powers are too big and too strong to confront.
