Grant is a young man who never had the opportunity to go on an expedition with his uncle, Randall. Grant comes from America to Russia to claim the properties Uncle Randall left for him. On getting to Russia, he sees reasons to dig into the story behind his uncle’s disappearance. Zona: The Forbidden Land centres on Uncle Randall’s nephew, Grant Taylor.

Having gone on several expeditions successfully and keeping records of them, Randall went on one but never returned. Randall was legally declared deceased. Grant, whom Randall considered his heir, travelled to Russia to claim Randall’s properties. He met his uncle’s attorney and closest friend, Boris Ustinov, and his niece, Irina Ustinov. In Russia, Grant coincidentally met with a man who claimed to have valid information about his uncle’s disappearance. Besides the cash, ammunition, and records he found in his uncle’s house, he got a letter warning him not to trust anyone. Grant became keen on finding out everything about his uncle’s disappearance. Grant agrees to go on an expedition to Zona with Boris, Iris, and Max Volkov (the only survivor from the last expedition). Will this expedition work for Grant? Will he be able to uncover the truths?

Zona: The Forbidden Land by Fred G. Baker is a 317-page book. The book is in three parts, with a total of 36 chapters. The first part covers everything that led to the expedition. The second part covers the journey experience until the team successfully goes to the Sheba Pass. The third section detailed the journey from the Sheba Pass. The book has a table of contents for easy navigation. The author even included maps and physical setting layouts for readers' understanding. The end of every chapter was intriguing. The book was very educational and thought-provoking. I got to learn simple Russian customs.

There are many things to like about this book. The plot of this book was chronological and brilliant. Though there were many characters, the author did well in developing them. At some point, I doubted if the story was fictitious. It is because it seemed realistic. I also commend the author for the twists and suspense in this book. My favourite character was Anya. I admired her level of IT literacy and business mind.

If there is anything to dislike about this book, it is the intensity of the suspense, especially at the beginning. However, the suspicion dropped as things played out in the story. I got bored at some parts of the expedition, but curiosity helped me to keep reading. The book turned from a crime and action thriller to an adventure. I enjoyed reading this book. I rate this book five out of five stars because it was professionally well-edited. I encountered no errors while reading.

I recommend this book to lovers of adventure and science fiction. I advise against young children reading this book because it contains profanities and sexual content.

I love the concept this book is built. The whole Russian feeling while following Oleg was a sensational written journey. The adventure through Zona was quite weird tho but not disliked. Nice review.

The fact that Randall was warned not to trust anyone adds mystery and tension to this narrative. I love books with these two elements. Also, I love the way you break down the structure of this book into parts. You have written a great and detailed review. Well done!

Grant's enthusiasm to find his missing uncle Randall is admirable, and I would love to know if he succeeds in finding him after he went missing on his last exploration.
