[Following is a volunteer review of "Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula" by R.F. Kristi.]
Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula by R.F. Kristi is a captivating children's book about Inca, a Siberian detective cat, and her family of furry detectives as they travel to South Korea for a French Patisserie Competition. Inca's human mother, Missy, was chosen to be one of the judges for the competition, and they were all excited about the opportunity. However, upon arriving at the Incheon airport, Missy discovered that her unique cheese, Lè crème de lè creme, had gone missing.
Inca and her family, always eager to solve mysteries, decide to help Missy find her missing cheese. They meet a tour guide who takes them to his house for the night, and there they befriend his dog and learn about his sister. He was separated from her. The cat detectives embark on a dangerous journey to help the tour guide reunite with his sister, taking them across the border between North and South Korea. Throughout their adventure, Inca and her family face numerous challenges, such as navigating the unfamiliar terrain of North Korea and outsmarting the officials who are trying to stop them. They also learn about the conflict between North and South Korea and the laws enforced by both countries.
What I like most about this book is that, despite the danger and uncertainty of their mission, Inca and her furry family never give up. They are motivated by their love of adventure and desire to help others. As they inch closer to their goal, they discover that the missing cheese was, in fact, not stolen but accidentally left behind at the airport. I loved the sense of adventure and mystery expertly woven into the story. The author's ability to tell the story from a cat's perspective was unique and exciting. The author's impressive characterization of the characters also stood out. Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula is an exciting and educational book that will captivate young readers.
There's nothing to dislike in this book. The author's simple language and organization make it an easy read for children without losing the thrill. It teaches lessons about friendship, perseverance, and kindness while shedding light on the conflict between North and South Korea. I encountered no errors while reading it, and the cover design is well-suited.
Overall, I highly recommend Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula to children aged 5 to 12. Children can read and learn from this excellent storybook. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars because the author expertly blended adventure, mystery, and educational content in a way that kept me engaged throughout the book.
