When Katie was in school, she had an unusual experience. She heard the oak tree outside her classroom speak to her, imploring her to stop the pruners from trimming its branches. The tree claimed that pruning its branches sapped out its vital energy. When Katie informed Mrs. Pinski, her teacher, about the tree's message, the teacher dismissed it as daydreaming. Unfortunately, Katie's classmates joined in mocking her. They also mocked Amy for hanging out with her, thinking she was also crazy.

The strangeness continued when Katie heard Sasha, the family cat, speak to her about the fate of the Earth. By then, Amy had grown weary of Katie's stories and was no longer willing to believe her. However, when Katie went into a trance in their basement, she discovered herself in another world. This world was the setting of Ellen Dee Davidson's captivating children's book, WIND. Read on for a gripping tale.

Davidson's writing style is engaging and suspenseful, and the addition of a fantasy setting adds a unique touch that complements the plot. I love how the story focuses on the importance of teamwork, as Katie works alongside Za, a mystical creature, to find her way back home. The book also encourages environmental consciousness, highlighting the vital importance of preserving our natural world.

While there are a few minor typos and errors in the book, they do not detract from its overall quality. The engaging narration makes it a great choice for children aged eight and above, who will love the adventure-filled plot and mystical creatures. However, younger children may find the language a bit complex to follow.

Overall, WIND is an excellent book that parents should consider adding to their children's reading list. It is a thought-provoking and heartwarming story that teaches important lessons while providing a fun and engaging reading experience. I highly recommend it and give it a resounding 5 out of 5 stars. I don't see any significant negative aspects to justify a lower rating.

Protecting and preserving nature cannot be over-emphasized, and any means of passing the message to the younger generation is necessary and appreciated. This is a must-read for children.
