Review of Frustrating Fascination
This is a mind-blowing and interesting book. Are you finding it difficult to live in the current society, which is full of homosexuals? Has your partner left you for a homosexual partner? How did you feel? Are you having difficulty identifying your sexual orientation? Frustrating Fascination by Debra Mckenzie is here for you. The book has several characters with different personalities. Sean is a man who is against homosexuality; Bruce is gay; and Marina left Sean to be with Vanessa, who is a lesbian.
Sean is struggling to fight the humiliation his divorce from Marina has brought to his life. He finds it difficult to understand why she had to leave him for a woman. He has his childhood friend, Bruce, with whom he grew up. He had gone to the army with him, but Bruce was removed because of his homosexuality. At some point, while they were still in the army, he distanced himself from Bruce because he feared being associated with gayism. He later meets Bruce when he marries Marina, Bruce's sister. At his workplace, Sean is struggling to handle Alex, a transgender employee who is always late. He feels like he should fire him but fears people would view him as anti-gay.
I like how the author has brought out the theme of homosexuality in the book. It all started just after Sean visited an antique shop. He found a strange mirror with beautiful curves and decided to buy it as a gift for his mother on her birthday. He hung it on a wall in his bedroom. Thoughts of homosexuality started filling his mind after this. Could the seller know something about it? The book brings out how homosexuals are viewed in the community. Some societies appreciate homosexuals while others hate them. They go through humiliation, especially in rural settings.
I did not like the changing events of the book, especially the fantasy part about Sean. I found it quite difficult to understand. There were a lot of turns; here he is gay, and the next hour he is against homosexuality. Some of the sexual scene descriptions were too vivid. It became disgusting for me. Apart from these, the author's writing style was top-notch. I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars because I found no grammatical errors or typos in it. I can say the editing was excellent.
I recommend this book to anyone struggling with their sexual orientation. I also recommend it to a mature audience because of the sexual scenes described. Very sensitive readers should not read it. There are a lot of lessons to be learned from this book, especially for those struggling to get out of a closet. It is a mind-blowing book.
