[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies" by Matthew Tysz.]
The tale commences in the land of Princes, a place where governance seems to be lacking. It is a dreary abode that the protagonist has yearned to depart from for some time. Galen's life takes a turn when his uncle passes away, leaving him with his forge and business to inherit. Galen takes a week-long voyage across the sea and sets foot in Voulhire for the first time. He meets Rowan, who is his uncle's executor and was tasked with helping him settle in. The two men soon became fast friends. In the meantime, Voulhire is rife with trouble as Meldorath seeks revenge, and a group of terrorists called Riva Rohavi lurks in secrecy, waiting for the right moment to strike.
I love Eldus. With his kindheartedness, Eldus genuinely cares for the happiness of his people, leaving no question about his concern for them. The book is full of suspense, and its twists and turns will undoubtedly leave you in awe. The scenes are incredibly vivid, making it easy for readers to visualize the story. Moreover, the plotlines of the Mianora Council and Meldorath are fantastic, and you'll find yourself itching to know what happens next. The book is truly a page-turner that has many lovable aspects, including its interesting storyline, the flow of events that complement each other, and the way every character and event adds a new level of intrigue to the story. From start to finish, the reader will be hooked, and the story will never cease to amaze.
The story's characters, including the secondary ones, had significant roles that impacted the narrative, making it a captivating read. Every page brought forth new mysteries and dynamics, and Galen's character stood out as my favorite due to his humility and diligence. He adhered to his uncle's wishes and learned blacksmithing, showcasing his humility. Galen also worked diligently, following his uncle's instructions to ensure the forge's prosperity. Eldus, who served the people of Hillport fervently and prioritized their interests, was another character I admired. The book's humor and sarcasm made it an enjoyable read, and the way the author constructed the world was intriguing. Although not extensive, various regions of the world were interconnected in the overall plot, which piqued my interest. Tysz expertly navigated between scenes, avoiding confusion for the reader, and included descriptive sequences that allowed for a vivid and immersive reading experience. Overall, the book was a page-turner that held my attention from beginning to end.
There was nothing I disliked about this book. The book was also exceptionally edited. Therefore, I would give this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars.
I would recommend We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under the Great Skies to readers who are suckers for magic and stories that revolve around magic.
