The Queen of Xana by Freb Pilcher. Life is always filled with sorrow and despair, always kicking you when you are down. Now just imagine you were born 300 years ago when there was no plumbing and no electricity, and when you were born poor, that is how you will die. The kingdom of Xana was the same, with the rich becoming richer and the poor dying of starvation. Queen Julia, mother of Agatha, was a wonderful Queen, doing all in her power to make sure the country prevailed. However, Agatha’s incredible gift of seeing people’s true character made her an even better queen. Queen Agatha was a woman who thought about her people before herself and did everything in her power to make the land of Xana a peaceful, happy place for all to live in harmony.

This book has two hundred and forty pages. It is divided into eight chapters. The story is narrated from a third-person omniscient point of view and written in the present tense. Some themes found in this book include relationships and marriage, friendship and betrayal, good vs evil, war, love, and death.

I enjoyed this book very much. Fred Pilcher outdid himself with the amount of information he collected and the incredible story he told, only with very little accurate information. The way he wrote The Queen of Xana has me mesmerized by the country and has made me deeply sad that the country is Xana does not exist any more. The Queen of Xana has a strong internal story logic, a fitting writing style, a good balance of tension and release, effective dialogue, and a strong opening. All these are features of a good book, and The Queen of Xana sure is a wonderful book.

I did not detect any errors throughout this book, which shows good editing. This book is not suited for readers younger than 18 years of age, because of the vulgar language and nudity proclaimed in this book. I do not have anything bad to say about the book. All though Queen Agatha might be fiction, her character teaches us a lot of lessons. A few of these lessons are how to think before speaking, how to be humble, and how to always present yourself with respect and confidence.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. I do not think I will be reading this book again, but the awesome writing and storyline prevented me from deducting a star. Therefore, I recommend this book to readers who like drama, realistic fiction, action and romance.
