[Following is a volunteer review of "Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula" by R.F. Kristi.]
R.F. Kristi’s Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula: Diary of a Snoopy Cat is an exciting and colourful children’s book that depicts the characters of Inca the Siberian kitty, Fromage, Cara, Monk, Charlotte, Terrance, and Polo. This is the eighth edition in the Inca Cat Detective Series. The furry family live with their human mom and Solo, a human boy. Everyone is excited because mom has been invited to be a judge at the French patisserie competition, organised by Le Cordon Bleu, which is to be held in South Korea. They all prepare for the trip ahead, and mom sets out to make her wonderful cheese, which is to be her secret ingredient for the competition. They head over to South Korea after a few days, and their stay in Seoul was both exciting and adventurous. Grab a copy of Cat Detectives in the Korean Peninsula: Diary of a Snoopy Cat to follow them on this exciting journey and find out how the furry detectives will save the day in Seoul.
This was a colourful and fun book to read. The language was quite simple, and the picture illustrations added to the excitement. I love how the furry team dealt with the cunning Enzo, who was out to steal mom’s secret cheese. Also, the depictions of the streets of Seoul and the cherry blossoms were a thrilling sight to behold. I enjoyed their nighttime adventures at the DMZ and how they were able to reunite Ye-jun and his sister. Themes of teamwork, unity, and courage were depicted in this amazing book.
I really enjoyed reading this book, and there was absolutely nothing I would wish to change in it. It was a short read, and I didn’t encounter any errors, so it is safe to say the book was exceptionally well edited.
I would give this book a perfect rating of 5 out of 5 stars because the writing was easy to understand, there were picture illustrations in every chapter, and the book carries a good message for children.
I would recommend this book to children between the ages of 5 and 10. Even though there are playful texts and picture illustrations, this book still has an educational side. I liked the little explanation of the history of the DMZ and the conflict between North and South Korea.
