[Following is a volunteer review of "Thriving in the Storm" by Bill Murphy.]
This book depicts the authors torturous and traumatic upbringing and that is what he has been struggling through. But he decided to make peace with that upbringing and his past in order to make a better life for himself and used this process he's shared with us to push him towards success. He set the goal, made the environment, had ambition and perseverance to push through the negatives to reach a better outcome.
This book is a metaphor for the rough events that push us to our breaking points again and again throughout our lifetime, with no event ever being the same as the one before or the one after. It's almost like a road map on how best to weather those stormy days and keep looking forward to a better tomorrow, and to find a way to enjoy the journey as we fight to survive.
The author tells his heart breaking story in an easy to read format so that anyone can pick up this book and sink deep into it's pages. It's a one of a kind self help novel that shows the positives and the negatives in life and that we need both to thrive. As much as we may want to give up and throw in the towel or scream about how unfair life is, we should instead push through with a goal in mind and appreciate the lessons in every storm we walk through. We should appreciate even the negatives, because without them, life would not be worth fighting for.
The author helps us look within ourselves to make better sense of the world around us. To use our histories and histories of those before us to understand. I give this book a solid 5/5, only wishing I could give it more stars. If you have ever gone through a traumatic event and are left trying to find the "why", this book will help you find those answers within yourself. This book will help you overcome what you have been stuck on.
